Biography:

Stephen LaCount heads a boutique law firm based in Irvine (see www.lacountlaw.com). His practice emphasizes domestic and international business transactions and acquisitions, general counseling/emerging growth companies, intellectual property protection and exploitation, technology provisioning and development, software licensing and information technology contracting, outsourcing, strategic partnering arrangements, internet, e-business, privacy and data protection, antitrust, and specialized regulatory matters involving international technology transfer, national security, and foreign trade control compliance. He lectures and writes extensively on technology law, privacy regulation and international trade subjects, and has been included in the International Who’s Who of Internet and E-Commerce Lawyers for over 15 years. LaCount is also a long-standing member of the American Arbitration Association's National Roster of Neutrals and has arbitrated a wide variety of disputes involving intellectual property rights and technology-related agreements and transactions. He was previously affiliated with Nixon Peabody LLP and Arter & Hadden LLP, where he served as a partner and member of the firm’s executive committee. Prior to transitioning to law firm practice, LaCount held in-house counsel posts with several prominent multinationals, including Westinghouse Electric, Esterline Technologies and AST Research. He served on the board of directors of the Computer Law Association (currently known as the International Technology Law Association) and chaired the Computer Law Association’s biennial Pacific Rim Computer Law Conferences in Newport Beach and San Francisco. He served as a member of the Executive Council of the American Electronics Association (currently known as Tech America) for several years and co-founded the AEA High-Tech Innovation Awards, an annual Southern California technology company showcase.
