Biography:

Mark S. Filowitz received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from New York University, and two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from Columbia University. He was with the Exxon Research and Engineering Company as a senior staff scientist for 10 years, including two years on assignment in the United Kingdom. Filowitz moved to Fullerton, California in 1987 when he joined Wynn Oil Company in Azusa, as director of research and development and subsequently held several vice president positions before becoming president and CEO from 1992 to 1999 when the company was acquired. Filowitz joined the California State University, Fullerton Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty in 2000 primarily teaching general and physical chemistry and served as department co-chair from 2004 to 2008. He was appointed Associate Dean for the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in August 2008 and in 2016-2017 he also served concurrently as interim Associate Vice President for Academic Operations. Filowitz also served as an academic senator for six years. In January 2019 Filowitz was appointed Associate Vice President, Academic Programs.
