Biography:

Ying-Chiao Tsao, associate professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders at California State University-Fullerton, is a recipient of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) 2009-2019 Multicultural Grant Award and an ASHA certified fluency specialist. Tsao’s primary training is in the areas of speech acoustics and fluency disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Over the years her research has been examining the relationships between speech rate and fluency disorders. For the past decade, her research interest has been expanded to providing a whole-person service and serving diversity. Her academic focus is on imparting multifaceted academic training to arm speech-language clinicians with knowledge and skills to serve the diverse client populations. Much of her endeavors are to cultivate cultural humility in students through various high-impact practices (e.g., co-curriculum, service-learning, interprofessional education, team collaboration, and study abroad) and to promote their critical thinking skills, research interest, and self-efficacy through community-based participatory research.
