Dr. Lisa Winstead is the Spanish bilingual authorization coordinator in the Department of Elementary and Bilingual Education at Cal State Fullerton. She received her doctorate in curriculum and instruction with emphasis on language, literacy and culture from the University of the Pacific. She holds a bachelor’s degree in government/journalism and master’s degree in political science. She conducts research about global educational and social justice issues related to transnationalism, immigration, reproductive post-colonialism, and language status in the digital age. Earlier in her career as a journalist, she wrote for the California Journal. As a television journalist for ABC in Sacramento (the bilingual Progreso program) and in Redding for KRCR, she reported about political, economic, educational and migrant issues. She most recently presented "Not the French-French” at the University of Strasbourg about the inclusion of non-Europeans in higher education. Her co-edited book, the Handbook of Research on Foreign Language Education in the Digital Age (Wang & Winstead, 2016), covers innovative technological approaches and tools to support educators, but also includes information about challenges, such as, providing equitable access to worldwide learners and how digital dissemination influences the integrity of culture and heritage language worldwide. Other publication titles include: "Mexican Heritage ELL and Native English Speaker Interaction," "Apprehension and Motivation Among Adolescent Dual Language Peers," "Journey to Medieval China: Using Technology Enhanced Instruction…," "The Impact of NCLB and Accountability on the Social Studies" and "Immigrant Perceptions of Their Adjustment to France" published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Winstead teaches about cultural pluralism, Latinos in education, English learner methods and inquiry, bilingual methods in Spanish, and social studies education. Languages spoken include French, Spanish and Japanese.
