Biography:

Hossein Moini joined the Mechanical Engineering Department at CSUF in 1987. Before that he was conducting research at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned his Ph.D. During his 30 years at CSUF, Moini served the Mechanical Engineering Department as the chair/department head for six years. In this position, he was actively involved in setting vision, strategic planning, budgeting, staff hiring, evaluation and training. He also worked directly with key technology leaders to harmonize the mechanical engineering program with relevant industries and their technical challenges. He continues to collaborate with industry. His accomplishments also include design, development and upgrading of several engineering laboratories using industry-standard hardware and software. He has led engineering research teams for the analysis, design, development and testing of multidisciplinary engineering systems with an emphasis on mechatronics design implementation. He has received faculty research recognition and teacher scholar recognition awards from CSUF on three different occasions. In the past, he has received grants from the National Science Foundation and Lockheed Martin Corp. More than 70 percent of the student projects he has supervised have been sponsored by industry. Recently, he has been supervising projects that have been concerned with extending the driving range of a hybrid/electric car and vibration energy harvesting. Moini has participated in creating two new programs in the College of Engineering and Computer Science and has proposed/developed ten new courses.Overall, he has taught more than 32 different engineering courses.
