Biography:
Dr. Igor Acácio is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics, Administration, and Justice at California State University, Fullerton. He specializes in comparative politics with a regional focus on Latin America, and his research examines the causes and consequences of the involvement of the military and police in governance, public security, and policy implementation. His work explores how these dynamics shape democratic governance, human rights, and violence.
Dr. Acácio’s most recent project, a book titled Presidentialism and Civil-Military Relations: Brazil in Comparative Perspective (Palgrave Macmillan, 2025), investigates how presidential powers and political incentives shape civil-military relations.
Beyond his scholarship, Dr. Acácio is passionate about undergraduate education and mentorship. At CSUF, he teaches courses on Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Latin American politics, emphasizing hands-on learning, data-driven analysis, and student engagement with global challenges.
