Biography:
Dr. Marc Dickey, professor of music in the California State University, Fullerton School of Music, has served on the faculty since 1988. He was director of the School of Music from 2005-2017. He continues to lead the university’s highly respected instrumental music teacher training program. He conducted Cal State Fullerton’s Symphonic Winds and University Band for more than a dozen years.
Dr. Dickey holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Northwestern University. His research on music teaching and learning has been published in the Journal of Research in Music Education and the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education as well as in professional journals and web sites, including The Instrumentalist. His interpretive analyses of several of the wind band compositions of Michael Markowski, Frank Ticheli, and others have been published by Manhattan Beach Music and Markowski Creative.
Dr. Dickey was previously Associate Director of Bands at Oregon State University. He has taught instrumental music ensembles at all levels, from elementary through university. He has conducted several Southern California honor bands and has led clinics for bands and orchestras from 25 states and three Canadian provinces. He has presented workshop sessions for the California All-State Music Education Conference, the California Music Educators Association, and the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association.
