Biography:

Matthew Jarvis is a native of west Los Angeles. He received his B.A. in political science and chemistry from Williams College, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from UC Berkeley. His dissertation explored how presidents get credit for laws getting made—even those laws they oppose. His research interests include Congress, elections, research methods, voting technology, public opinion and veto politics. His current research explores how veto threats evolved over the presidencies of Grover Cleveland, Dwight Eisenhower, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. He is an avid snowboarder and cook, and can compete at the highest levels of The Simpsons Trivia Game.
