Biography:
Patricia A. Pérez, Ph.D., is a Professor at California State University, Fullerton, in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies. While completing her doctorate Dr. Pérez served as a Research Analyst at the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing, and a Program Coordinator for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Statewide Migrant Student Leadership Institute. Before beginning her doctoral program, Dr. Pérez worked in student affairs at the Stanford University School of Medicine and in outreach for the Upward Bound program at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Dr. Pérez' research interests focus on U.S. educational inequalities with an emphasis on underrepresented student populations. Other interests include: higher education access and equity, Latina/o college choice, college persistence and retention, Latino-serving institutions, racial diversity in higher education, examinations of the role of race/ethnicity, gender and im/migrant status on college access, and facilitating im/migrant college access through community-university partnerships. She is the co-editor of “Higher Education Access and Choice for Latino Students: Critical Findings and Theoretical Perspectives” and “Facilitating Educational Success for Migrant Farmworker Students in the U.S.,” both published by Routledge in 2015 and 2017, respectively.
Dr. Pérez has presented her research at various national forums including the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education, the American Educational Research Association, the Association for the Study of Higher Education, National Association for College Admission Counseling, and The Tomás Rivera Policy Institute. She is the recipient of several awards including recognition for exceptional teaching, service, scholarship, and honors for outstanding mentorship.
