Biography:
Dr. Jimenez is a Professor in the Biological Science Department at California State University Fullerton, CA. She holds a B.S. and Pharmacy degree and M.S. in Biochemistry from the University Juan Agustin Maza and obtained her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Chile. Her research focuses on the role that ion channels play in protozoan parasites, shaping their ability to survive under challenging environmental conditions and modulating the host-pathogen interaction. They hope to leverage this information for the development of new drugs to combat neglected diseases such as Chagas and sleeping sickness.
Since 2023, Dr. Jimenez is the coordinator of the URISE at CalState Fullerton training program, dedicated to increase preparedness and diversity in the Biomedical research fields. In 2024, Dr. Jimenez became the M.S. in Biology Program adviser, overseeing administrative and academic aspect of the program.
