Biography:
Maria C. Grant, Ed.D., is a professor of secondary education at California State University, Fullerton. She has authored numerous publications centered on close reading, CCSS, science literacy, formative assessment, and reading in the content areas, including articles in Educational Leadership and the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy. Additionally, she is coauthor of Reading and Writing in Science: Tools to Develop Disciplinary Literacy and Teaching Students to Think Like Scientists: Strategies Aligned with Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards, both with Dr. Douglas Fisher and Dr. Diane Lapp. Her newest publications are A Close Look at Close Reading: Teaching Students to Analyze Complex Texts-for Grades K–5 and 6-12. Dr. Grant teaches courses in the credential program at CSUF and conducts professional development with teachers at various schools across the country. She currently leads the intern program at CSUF.
She earned an Ed.D. at the University of San Diego/San Diego State University (joint doctoral program) and an M.A. in curriculum and instruction at San Diego State University. She earned a B..A in geological sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
