Biography:

Michelle Martin has worked in the social work field for more than three decades in a range of practice settings. In addition to a Ph.D. in peace studies, she holds a master of social sciences in global policy studies and a master of social work (MSW). Martin teaches social welfare policy courses in the Department of Social Work. She is the author of three books and other publications in the field of social work, social welfare, global advocacy, refugees and forced migration, diaspora use of social media, and peace and conflict processes. Her specific area of research focuses on ethnonationalist conflict, forced migration, protracted refugee situations and refugee resettlement, with a particular focus on refugee use of social media for a range of purposes, including identity expression and engagement in political processes.
